Slashboxes won't update but stories do

Anonymous Coward writes "I have a new install running well... except that changes I make to Blocks seem to come and go randomly. I can make a change to, for example, the organisation block. A few minutes later it may show up (or not), and then a few page reloads later it will go back to the default. I have tried killing apache and slashd to no effect. This also happens when I update the slashdotrc.pl, where the changes don't propagate into the pages. Is there any way to force the system to discard all of the dynamic shtml files and recreate to get rid of cached data."

  • I've noticed the same when using IE 5.0. It's funny, I can actually cycle between different versions of the page in the order that I made it by pressing reload. I haven't seen this happen when using Netscape.

I have also noticed that you might have to restart httpd (apache sometimes caches the pages for long periods of time).
  • On second thought, you might want to try restarting both portald and slashd.
