A box with QUOTES (being able to be commented)

posted by Krow on 06:33 PM September 18th, 2001   Printer-friendly   Email story
Xavier de Blas writes "I want to make a box being able to read one quote per week from a text file or introduce them with a form. The quotes need to have a format like the polls: able to comment, able to go to past quotes.
Is there something like this?
I think it will be great for most sites. I want it for DeporteyCiencia. Sorry for my english, many thanks."

  • I'm going to attempt to paraphrase to try and figure out what he's talking about:
I want to make a box. It's data is to be populated from a text file
    Easy enough.
or introduce them with a form
    This I don't understand.
The quotes need to have a format like the polls: able to comment, able to go to past quotes. Is there something like this?
No, nothing like this exists that I'm aware. You could use the voting code that comes with slash as a starting point and write your program that way.
If you don't go that route, then I don't think it's doable with anything before slash2.2.
With slash2.0, I tried making different things on the site "commentable". But because of the way was done, it was really, really difficult to do. I had to modify the slash src, it wasn't pretty, and it's awkward.
But the comment system in 2.2 was redone, and from what I understand, with 2.2, it's a piece of cake to attach comments to anything.

Ok!, today I will study the, try to understand, and to simplify, tomorrow I will ask my new questions.

    Bonne chance!
