Help on Search Grammar

Alien54 writes "I am looking to understand more the grammar of the queries used in the slashcode search function, and I would like to know what are the wildcards that are usable in it.

For example, I am helping out on a site where some of the topic areas are the names of states. The relevant topic areas typically are ~ak, ~al, ~az, etc. a tilde followed by the state abbreviation. What would be nice would be able to have an "all states" category that would search for all ~(wildcard) or maybe a way to implement an "or" function, searching for results in NY or LA for example In your typical search.pl?topic=~wtf how would you implement this?"
