Great to throw away this patches from the Barrapunto CVS.
acs 2001-10-23T05:45:55+00:00 slash Barrapunto now 2.0 http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/115?from=rss
After some months in migrating the new features we use in
Barrapunto (ACLs, indexes to group the stories in several sections, ecolutions to enable the re-edition of stories
as a new story, MySlash in order our users can manage its own section and some othe features) as slashcode plugins with some minor modifications in the libraries, we have
Barrapunto.com now running using slash 2.0.

Some of our editor has started to play with the templates
and change it for some sections in order to take another L&F in each section.

At the begining we are worried about the load of the machine with this new software, but after the cache was activated and the AC access to index.shtml, everything seems to work well for our dual PIII 750 Mhz 1 GB RAM machine. I think we can serve 100.000 pages/day with this machine before we have to use to machines, one for the database and the the other for the web server.
acs 2001-09-23T10:59:44+00:00 bugs First story in slashcode http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/109?from=rss
Today I have put my first story in slashcode. Great!
I try to do a great job here in slashcode and learn everything I can ;-)
acs 2001-08-27T14:38:15+00:00 bugs Plugins in slashcode http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/76?from=rss
I think that it will be wonderfull to has all the plugins accesible from:

http://slashcode.com/plugins.pl

It seems to me that this place is the correct place to
share our work. I will try to discuss it with the slashcode
webmaster, Krow I think.
acs 2001-06-08T06:58:08+00:00 bugs An Event System http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/75?from=rss
Many people ask us in Barrapunto.com that they want to receive and e-mail when somebody reply a comment. Ok, let's try to do it bue, why only control when somebody reply a comment? Maybe, we can catch also when a new story enter the system or when a new poll is put.

But we dont' want to modify the slashcode so, how can we implement this? Simple, we have two tables:

event

event_subscription

A daemon called "eventd" takes the events from the slash database and put the in the event table. Then, it process the events and using the event_subscription table, builds and email for the users informing with the new events. And then, it deletes all the events. This process is repeted.

The hard thing in the system is the scalability. We are now thinking about it, but to take in memory the event table and the event_subscription table in hash tables could be the solution, no?

If you want to see it, take a look at our CVS.
acs 2001-06-07T16:52:47+00:00 bugs Internationalization http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/74?from=rss We are in the process to traduce slashcode to Spanish and it is not an easy task. It could be easy if we fork from the slashcode-2.0 and forget to mantain the compatibility with it. But we want to develop synchronized in order to help with our ideas and new functionality. For the momento we aven't receive great atention from the slascode development team but it si normal. They have their own target. Some ideas that we have implemented:

An ACL system

VirtualSections: why a story only has a section? This is a limitation for the printed press, not for us. We can put the same story in differente sections using indexes. So we can group the stories under very different views. It's very flexible.

MySlash: this is wonderfull. Each user can have a slash site.

AutoStories: we build automatically indexes with stories using things like the more comments/hits in the last 15, 30, 45 days. Or we mix sections like GNOME and KDE in a section called Desktops.

CrudeStories: every submission is inserted automatically in a special section called "EnBruto".

Some other ideas I will put here in the future. We try to implement everything as plugins but in some moments we hace to create patches against slashcode 2.0.
acs 2001-06-07T08:40:24+00:00 bugs My first post http://www.slashcode.com/~acs/journal/43?from=rss
Hi guys!

I am testing this new system in slashcode 2.0.
In BarraPunto.com we let our users to have its own
slash site with her journal, but I think that this system
is simpler. And the Friends is a great way to
improve the community.
acs 2001-04-23T08:50:13+00:00 bugs
