    Dunno if you noticed guys, Bender is getting SLOW!!! Any tips and tricks on how to speed it up a bit? its taking several secs now to load the dinamically created pages.

  • Um, where is it slow. Here?

    If it's your site, I'd turn on the Indexhandler thing in the conf file. It redirects most users to the .shtml file instead of the .pl file.

    It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
  • I still can't get the standard makefile to work on FreeBSD 4.3. I have to add:

    1. "install : $(NOOP)" to the Makefile in the "plugins"
    2. I still have to remove the following lines from the Makefile
      if [ -f "$$f.bak" ]; then \
      rm $$f; mv $$f.bak $$f; \
      fi; \
    So, if you have FreeBSD, do that and it installs pretty much. It will complain about where the init scripts go........but oh well.

    It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
  • Ok, it installs, but it won't start now.

    Can't locate object method
    "sqlTransactionStart" via package "DBIx::Password" at /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.005/i386-freebsd/ Slash/DB/Static/ line 81.
    why am I here? at /usr/local/slash/sbin/slashd line 36
    main::END() called at
    /usr/local/slash/sbin/slashd line 0
    eval {...} called at
    /usr/local/slash/sbin/slashd line 0

    It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
  • Nevermind. Krow/Brian fixed it. Everything is happy. You still have to make those changes to the Makefile though.......

    It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
  • What hardware are you running it on?

    What do you have your block cache value set to?

    In working with bender, I change that value to 300 so everything refreshes more quickly while I'm changing templates et all. I've notices, while this is very useful, it slows the system down. When the I reset that value to the stock value, performance improves.

    And this is on a PII system with 512MB ram (running other non-slash,non-bender sites) and mysql and samba etc.

    Dual celery 400, 256 mB ram, the DB is on a Dual 550 PIII 512MB Ram, but I have noticed the "slowdown" on itself, at least yesterday, on it would take around 10 sec. or so to load. It loads the header and for the rest of the page it takes awhile.
    I don't think its trafic relatet, well since that site is still under development and not many people even know about its existence.
    the site's URL is: [],
    in contrast [] is still running on Slash 1.09, gets some trafic and performs way better. (they are running on separate machines, is running on the same machine as the DB is on, that may be a factor, dunno can you optimize DB connections?)
  • And if someone takes time and writes an nice "How To".
    How to upgrade Slash 1.0.11 (FreeBSD) to 2.0.n (FreeBSD)
    ...time enough to screw?
