  • I haven't looked through your code, so I'll have to ask...

Why does the user have to be registered to email the story to a friend?

    • to prevent spam?

      • Yes. Even registered users could still spam, but this plugin uses Sendmail, the server's email function, so they're using my server to send the message. If I just let any old person do this, I would open myself up to abuse. So, I just allow registered users. Now, if you want, you can simply comment out that if statement, and there you go, anybody can do it. I wouldn't recommend it.

Something else, in the future I plan on writing additional checks in there that record how many times a user uses the function, which would further indicate any spamming.

        • Isn't its usefulness for spam reduced by the fact that you are dictating 80+% of the content of the message?

I suppose it could be used for a DoS attack, but you're using formkeys, right?

    • Yeah, why not be registered? I don't know of any slash site that uses your email for spam or sells it or.....?

It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
