  • If you want different karma for different sections, set up another slash site that focuses on the topic of that section.

/. (or any slash site) is intended to be one big community. Doing stuff like this would only splinter it. If you want to troll some people, your karma suffers. Deal with it.

    IMHO of course.

Now what I'd like is some reporting about metamod. Every once in awhile I lose karma but none of my recents posts have been bumped down. I'd like the user page to report, "You moderated a post title 'foo' attached to story 'bar' as 'Insightful' and someone disagreed with you." Or even a list of all moderations I've done with a tally afterwards (post 'foo' on story 'bar' - 'Insightful' : 3 agree, 1 neutral, 1 disagree in metamod).

  • Post good things that people like, they vote your Karma up. Post stupid things that people don't like, they vote your Karma down. This is called the Moderation process. High Karma gives small benefits to the slash user. To keep people from voting their friends up, there is a MetaModeration process, where you vote on how good the votes were.

    Hope that helps.

This is a comment test to see what the Re: will do in the subject line if I try to reply to this.
  • Could someone explain to me the "karma" stuff like I was a 8 year old? Thanx

I like your idea. Lemme add an AOL to that.

Your point about it being one big community is well taken, however, a community can only get so big before it fractures. As a user of slashdot, I think that there's a trend towards separation of the sub-groups that are evolving into the sections. I think my idea would help that separation become more distinct without really imposing too much overhead in a withdrawal of the sense of community.

If I was all that fired up about it I'd try to hack it up; Perl ain't my thing and I haven't the time anyway. So count this as 'user feedback' is all. -- h2odragon
