Web based e-mail

alex writes "So, the suits have been taking a look at our new Slash sites, and they are impressed. I have one going live with Slash in about 2 weeks, and one adding Slash as a community portion in about 4-6 weeks.

However, they are really interested in providing Web based e-mail to our users. They like it, and want to provide vanity e-mail addresses. Our servers are running PHP3 and mod_perl, and we have several add-ons in php3 that access the Slash database.

I would like to add e-mail relatively easily. I would like to grab the same cookie and authenticate against the same database (if possible). Does anyone have any suggestions for what they have used?

We have poked around with IMP, seems like a pain for this project, because it wants LDAP to really distribute users. Ideally, I want a webmail system that will authenticate against a MySQL database. Adapting IMP may be the way to go, but I'm looking for something less painful.

Alex"

Well, under Bender this is fairly trivial. Be a bit more difficult for the current release...
