Andover.Net's Ad Delivery System

Kurt Gray writes "For Slash users who may be wondering how Slashdot serves ads nowadays, I've uploaded Andover.Net's ad delivery system to SourceForge so you can download it from http://modadbanners.sourceforge.net/. The code is not tied specifically to Slash in any way, in fact we use the same ad system on all other Andover.Net sites. The core of this ad delivery system is an Apache module called mod_adbanners which basically generates HTML code for each ad banner in the page then stores those pieces of HTML in environment variables as the page is delivered. These environment variables can easily be inserted into web pages delivered via mod_perl, PHP, CGI, C, java servlets, or plain static HTML. Currently the backend for this system is based on flat text files and we are working on making it a great deal more complicated with a database backend via a CORBA interface. Fun, fun."
