Slash 2.2.3 Released

posted by pudge on 02:21 PM January 5th, 2002   Printer-friendly   Email story
OK, after the snafu from 2.2.2's schema, there's a new release. Again it's very strongly recommended that everyone using 2.2.0, 2.2.1, or 2.2.2 upgrade. Download it via HTTP or and FTP, and read the README and changelog.

Thanks to everyone who helped catch the problems.

    i am in need of some serious help over here... i have installed everything according to the 'INSTALL FAQ' but cannot get the httpd to kick-on and stay that way. if you believe you can help me and are willing to do so, please reply to me at moby@cfl.rr.com. many thanks to the brave soul who answers me !
  • I think the weblog was toasted...I was on earlier today, but I could have swore that there were comments here :)
  • I still think that there should be documentation on what is changing, etc, etc. It would make life easier......

    It's either on the beat or off the beat, it's that easy.
  • "and 2.2.2, if you managed to install it"

    Um... I successfully managed to install Slash 2.2.2 from scratch both on my dev box and on my live box (just upgraded yesterday). No problems found so far. What was meant to have gone wrong or did it not always occur?
  • Hey there,

    My first install of slash seemed to go pretty well, and after a ran install-slashsite I was left with what appeared to be a pretty operational slashsite. Upon closerinspection, it seems that (at least) two pieces of major functionality are broken.

      - when adding already submitted stories ,
          pressing the prievew button just takes me to a regularadmin.pl page, (just listing the current stories -- the same as if i do a GET on /admin.pl with noargs)

      - comments cannot be added to a discussion thread. after entering and submitting a comment, the /comments.pl page is delivered just showing the active discussions (same as GET /comments.pl with no args)

    Since then I've been struggling with installing slash for the best part of a week now and have about run out of ideas, so I hope someone can help.

    The errors in the httpd log are as follows

    Can't call method "connection" on an undefined value at usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i686-linux/Sla sh/DB/MySQL.pm line792.

    Can't use string ("") as a HASH ref while "strict refs" in use at /usr/local/lib/perl5/site_perl/5.6.1/i686-linux/Sl ash/DB/MySQL.pm line 800

    snippet from MySQL.pm
    MySQL:791 my $r = Apache->request;
    MySQL:792 my $hostip = $r->connection->remote_ip;

    so it looks like Apache->request is not returning anything useful!
    That can't be too helpful

    I've followed the install instructions to the letter. The installs seem to have all gone smoothly.

    i'm using perl 5.6.1, mod_perl 1.24_01 statically compiled into apache 1.3.20, MySQL 3.23.32-log

    i've disabled PHP (DSO) from the apache config, but the behaviour seems the same if i bring
    it back in.

    i recompiled Apache AGAIN today.
    The only problem i have seen during the compilation is in "make test" for mod_perl 1.24_01. I get the following error:

    modules/ssi.........FAILED before any test output arrived

    The .shtml pages in the site seem to work fine.
    all other tests pass.

    anyone seen this before, or got any comments. I'm at my wits end.

    Mark
  • Did we ever get a straight answer on the security issue? Why the urgency?

  • after a little playing around i got everything installed, e.g slash compiled and put everything in /usr/local/slash but when i try to run /usr/local/slash/bin/install-slash -u foo it asks me all sorts of questions, then dies with these errors:
