Incredibly, the software upgrade went smoothly on my Red Hat Linux-based server: I've just downloaded the RPMs from MySQL.com [mysql.com] and had no problems at all.
As far as I know (reading a piece of Slash documentation somewhere, sometime) this has something to do with the implementation of auto-increments in MySQL.
I did a test migration (slash2.0.0+MySQL3.23) which was reasonably smooth
