Sure, people can and do moderate, but we don't have trolls and first posts yet. So most of the time comments get moderated up for good instead of punished for bad content. We have about 15-25 comments a day.
I have the slight feeling that our karma heros have that much karma either because they've submitted many stories or because metamoderation gives them too many points, because there are some who don't have written much comments nor submitted more than three stories and still have a karma of 20 or higher.
