I'd trust my family to post appropriate stories, but I wouldn't trust them to keep from messing with all the extra bells and whistles an admin would see.
Some of the extra bells and whistles require addional seclev. You could either set the menu items you don't want them touching to a higher seclev, or you could just remove the items from the menu entirely.
I have the same request, but my slash site is for a company with 200 employees. I'd rather not take the time to make them all authors, but delete the inappropriate submissions as necessary.
