    Some of my sites are smaller, too, and I had the same problem. You can change the frequency by which people are asked to moderate. I think the vars you'd want to change are either m2_consensus_waitpow or m2_userpercentage .

    You can do this site-wide, or by story/discussion. Personally, I like some of the newer options - only allow friends, or friends and their friends, etc.

      you could make everyone an author, and give authors the ability to mod. You can also adjust security levels so that's all they get to do.

      If a site is a small clique to begin with, and it wants to stay that way and not grow, scoop is an excellent alternative to slash.
